NSSKA
The North Sound Sea Kayaking Association
The North Sound Sea Kayak Association is based in Everett, Washington and  promotes the enjoyment and safety of sea kayaking through lectures, trips, training, and information exchange.  But mostly, our members just like to go paddling together!

The first Thursday of each month (October through April) we meet in north Everett at Legion Hall in American Legion Memorial Park.  Speakers present demonstrations, show slides and videos, and lead discussions of interest to all sea kayakers.  Topics include boats and paddles, kayaking safety and seamanship, navigation, marine biology, and many paddling adventures.  Our Board holds separate business meetings, so come enjoy an evening with us.

Everyone is invited to join us whether you are a beginner or an expert, you will find friends and support for your sea kayaking adventures.

May 5th Hammersley Flush: Ten paddlers in nine boats participated in a wonderful outing this past Saturday. We paddled from Shelton on Oakland Bay to Hope Island about seven miles east down Hammersley Inlet.
The weather was decent (not great) and the company was exceptional! Pictures coming soon?
Saturday April 28 Washington Park Arboretum aka UW Arboretum :
Debbie led a group to the Arboretum and we are still waiting on some pictures.
Skagit island/Coronet Bay camping trip April 28-29: A special thank you to Don for stepping in for Bill as trip leader on this overnight trip. James Rose took lots of interesting Shots of Skagit Island and Ala Spit as well as Bill Hertzogs day 1 and day 2.
The Skagit River Eagle trip February 11: 9 kayakers enjoyed another glorious trip down the Skagit River that started with some fog and ended in SUNSHINE!. We floated from Marblemount to Rockport and only saw 9 eagles; they must be on their way back to Alaska and the Yukon already.
Port Susan February 5th: We had a glorious day on Port Susan. 12 Paddlers in 11 kayaks launched from Cavalero Beach on Camano Island. See Bill Hertzogs pics 1, pics 2, Tim Hallmarks pics 3. We paddled to the Nature Conservancy site on Livingston Bay. On the way back we chatted with a man who's in negotiations with the Nature Conservancy to sell much of his land including tidelands. We wish him luck.
Lake Goodwin and Lake Shoecraft paddle March 4: Despite a 12-15 knot head wind we headed out of North Lake Goodwin County Park immediately heading into the lee of Rose Point. As the wind calmed down we continued around the lake until we came upon the canal that leads to Lake Shoecraft. The water was up so we ventured in. Heading back to the put in the wind was kind enough to give us a gentle push home. Pictures from Kathy Hertzog
Navigation for coastal sea kayaking is less about plotting the shortest distances between points, but more about minimizing your exposure to hazards and risk and increasing your likelihood of seeing wildlife, interesting rock formations, nice places to take a break, and great campsites. This is a two part class see the "Events" page for more into.
